About

Emily Rath Orzabal

Emily began using the darkroom as a teenager which sparked a life long fascination with black and white film photography.

She attended the Liberal Arts program at Pepperdine University, graduating with a BA in Fine Arts in 2008. At the impressionable age of twenty two, she moved to Italy and completed a Post Baccalaureate in photography at Studio Art Centers International in Florence. She studied the Italian language, oil painting, processing and printing in the darkroom, and archival processes, such as platinum palladium photography. Self-portraiture was an ongoing project which became a therapeutic way for her to release painful emotions and turn them into something tangible.

Emily graduated from culinary school at the Edinburgh School of Food and Wine in 2012, and the next year became a Certified Sommelier.

She has been a pet sitter and dog walker in Malibu, a barista in fine dining restaurants, a line cook in professional kitchens, worked in wine shops and an award winning brewery, and has modeled for portraits and nude figure paintings at the classic painting school, Charles Cecil in Florence, Italy. By the time she was thirty, she had already lived in Colorado, California, Scotland, Italy, and England. In 2018 she completed her MA in Creative Writing at the University of Westminster in London.

Emily and Roland Orzabal
